Squall Quistis is introduced to Squall in the beginning as his instructor. She even defends him from Seifer after his training with Squall. She and Squall (as well as Irvine, Zell, Selphie and Seifer) grew up in an orphanage when they were little only realizing this later in the game since they made the revelation that GF use can erase some memories. She has deep emotions for him, what she thinks is love, but Squall doesn't see her in that way. Once Rinoa enters the scene, she realizes that she really didn't have a chance with him, but she cared for him like an older sister looks out for a little brother.
